A major survey by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life finds that most Americans have a non-dogmatic approach to faith. “The survey shows religion in America is, indeed, 3,000 miles wide and only three inches deep,” said D. Michael Lindsay, a Rice University sociologist of religion. According to the survey 6% of the Utah population consider themselves part of the mainline protestant tradition. Another 16% are not affiliated to any believe. Mormonism’s theoretical exclusivism is not part of what most people believe and the survey shows that just every other Utah resident belongs to the LDS church. Every fifth Utahn is or could be a mainline protestant.

The Orem and Provo Community Congregational Churches join forces to relaunch their websites on a shared platform. The two congregations started a blog and the Rev. Daniel Haas is confident: “In our churches most functions are covered by volunteers. That’s our latest approach to the internet as well. Our vibrant church life will be reported by our church bloggers. A static webpage providing the world with timeless information is as valuable as an entry in the yellow pages. That is why we prefer short and fresh blog posts making our page red-hot.” The 31-year-old native German has for four years run a blog on sport and spirituality and helped churches in Germany to start their blogging strategies, among which are projekt-jugendkirche.de and evangelisch-uellendahl-ostersbaum.de.
